Lubinda Tsepiso: Cultivating Change from Conventional Farming to Agroecology Champion

Lubinda Tsepino’s journey from a college student taught in conventional farming methods to becoming a fervent advocate for agroecology is nothing short of inspirational. Lubinda’s journey commenced during his college days at Chipembi Agricultural College, where he was introduced to conventional farming techniques. While studying, a turning point arrived when he encountered the principles of permaculture and agroecology which was brought by SCOPE Zambia through sensitisation and training meetings. The concept resonated deeply with him, igniting a passion for sustainable farming practices that harmonise with nature.

Driven by a thirst for knowledge, Lubinda delved into the study of agroecology, seeking to understand its principles and applications. His dedication and enthusiasm led him to not just embrace this new approach but to become a torchbearer for change. Lubinda transitioned from a student of agroecology to an advocate, envisioning a future where farming could be both sustainable and bountiful. He was selected as the agroecology champion group leader and is ensuring that the practises taught during the ToT are continuing at the college.

His opportunity to speak at the National Indigenous Seed and Food Festival was a pivotal moment. Armed with newfound knowledge and zealous determination, Lubinda shared his insights on agroecology, advocating for its adoption and importance in ensuring food security and environmental sustainability. His articulate and passionate advocacy resonated with attendees, garnering attention and sparking discussions about alternative farming methods.

Once he completes his studies, Lubinda’s commitment to agroecology doesn’t end with his college paper. Instead, he wants to return to his community with a vision. Empowered by his education and experiences, he aspires to initiate an agroecology project, aiming to implement sustainable farming practices in his community.
